Forever Beautiful - The Daily Mail Online
Every Monday, Elsa McAlonan for the Daily Mail answers a reader's big beauty query and presents the best buys to perk up your week.
Sandra, 45, from Glasgow, recently noticed that her wrinkles and fine lines have been getting worse. The mother-of-four dates the problem from March, when she was made redundant from her job as a civil servant. So is Botox the answer to her problems?
Sandra says: "Some of my friends have resorted to radical beauty treatments such as Botox, but in the past I was worried I would end up looking unnatural. I’ve used sunbeds and, in recent years, I’ve been lazy with skincare."
"At night, I take my make-up off with wipes, and I don’t apply anything other than moisturiser. I tend to buy whatever skincare products are to hand in the supermarket."
"I’ve always been wary of needles and invasive treatments, but was willing to give them a go, as long as they were administered by an expert."
"After careful consideration I decided on a little Botox [the name by which botulinum toxin is commonly known] in my forehead to ease the appearance of the wrinkles. A week later, my practitioner added some fillers to my cheeks and the lines running from my nose to my mouth."
It did hurt a little bit at the time, and one of my cheeks was bruised slightly. But my eyes have opened up and the crow’s feet at the sides of my eyes have disappeared.
The funniest thing is that nobody — not even my mum — has noticed, which is the effect I wanted.
People probably think I’ve had a good night’s sleep. I am going to start being less lazy about my skincare regime and won’t be using sunbeds any more.
Elsa says: The results look very natural — her crow’s feet have vanished, and Sandra looks like a younger, smoother version of herself.
She now needs a good skincare regime. Updating your make-up with soft, flattering colours can give brilliant results, as can increasing the amount of water you drink and getting more sleep."
