Microdermabrasion is a technical name for what is essentially a deep exfoliating procedure which reduces the appearance of scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation problems, uneven skin tones, and a dull, lifeless, sun-damaged complexion.
This treatment, suitable for all skin types, is a safe and effective way of exfoliating the skin without using any chemicals or laser. The DermaGenesis ® Microdermabrasion that we use at Woodford Medical uses a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals to remove the dead, outermost layer of skin. This skin exfoliation process reveals the new, living skin cells that are soft, smooth and receptive to nutrients. This procedure will also stimulate new collagen and elastin production thus improving fine lines and texture. The vacuum pressure of the treatment is customised according to the client's needs and skin type.
The result is a glowing, smooth, even and bright complexion. It is equally an ideal treatment to help you look fantastic for a special occasion or, more seriously, to treat unsightly skin blemishes and acne scarring.
Optimum results are obtained through a series of treatments, typically four to eight treatments, spaced seven to 14 days apart. Significant results should be seen in four to five weeks.
The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes, there are no side-effects and no recovery time is required. Mild redness may occur for 30 minutes to half a day after Microdermabrasion depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. We would advise using a mineral make up, such as Colorescience, after the treatment so that you do not clog up your pores.
