Excessive facial blushing is not uncommon and is both emotionally challenging as well disruptive to daily life both at work and at home.
Facial blushing and flushing can be associated with specific foods, temperature, emotional and physical stress and is often associated with nervousness. Facial blushing is a normal healthy physiological response. The problem occurs when this blushing response creates feelings of anxiety which in turn fuels the blushing which in turn fuels the anxiety.
Also, some people suffer from blushing much more than others, having built, unwittingly, 'conditioned reflexes' over the years. Sometimes the blushing is situational, such as when the person has to speak in front of groups of others, or feels that they are 'on the spot'. Sometimes a person will often blush even with just their immediate family.
Botox® injections are a new and effective treatment for facial blushing. They are applied as a series of injections placed superficially in the skin. The capillaries responsible for blushing are stimulated by specific innervations, Botox injections are able to block the neurological stimulation for many months. Botox® is also a very effective treatment for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), click on the link below for more information.
