Dissolving fat by injection - Lipotherapy

Lipotherpay using small injections of a drug called Phosphatidylcholine has now become a popular method for reducing fat in areas such as the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, love handles and arms. It can also be used for facial contouring in areas where there is unwanted fat such as under the chin and beneath the eyes. Lipotherapty can also be used to reduce cellulite. Skin tightens naturally as the fat disappears.

What is being injected?

Phosphatidylcholine is a natural bile product derived from Soya bean. In tablet form it enhances the body’s ability to reduce unwanted fat levels. Further research has seen the intravenous form used as a way of treating fat deposits within the vascular system. Clinical trials as far back 1996 showed that injections placed under the skin had a dissolving effect on fat. The use of lipotherapy for the removal of fat has been adopted widely throughout Europe with much of the lead research being conducted in Germany. The overwhelming conclusion of this work is that the treatment is safe, effective and permanent.

What does the treatment feel like?

A very small needle is used to inject the material into the fat. There is a very slight pricking sensation and most are unaware that the procedure is taking place.

What side effects should I expect?

Most people will see some swelling and tenderness or even pain in the treated area for a few days after the procedure. Some may have to take painkillers. The area will look bruised in some places and there may be areas of redness just under the skin. Some people report a lumpy sensation in the area for several weeks after the treatment. All side effects are temporary.

If travelling some distance or having lower areas of the body treated it may be advisable to make arrangements for a lift home after treatment.

This treatment takes several weeks to work and does not result in weight loss. Typical treatment courses are 4 to 8 weeks apart. Many clients will see significant benefits in 2 to 4 treatments.
